Racing is fun, but socializing with your fellow runners and honoring those who served and still serve may very well be the best part of the event.
Each year, the 12K ends in USS Alabama Battleship Park. As runners enter the park, volunteers hand out American flags for the runners to carry with them to the finish line, which faces the USS Alabama, creating quite a memorable experience.
After runners are finished, they collect their military-themed medal and then enjoy some socializing with other runners, active and retired military and veterans. The post race party is filled with a sentiment of pride and gratitude as you often hear “Thank You For Your Service” echoing from the crowd of runners, spectators and volunteers, who are all honoring those we served and still serve.
